Re-Frets

When frets are worn to the point where a fret-dress is not possible, then a re-fret is needed.

The new frets will be higher than the ones being replaced, but this is also an opportunity to replace them with the same size, or maybe something to give a different feel. Frets come in a variety of widths, heights, profiles nad indeed, hardness and toughness.

I use several makes of retwire to give as wide a range as possible. All these are of a professional standard, and chosen for resistance to wear for longevity.

Not all guitars need a full re-fret. Electric guitars tend to be played on most of the neck, so when the frets are worn out, a full re-fret is usually required. Acoustic guitars, on the other hand, take a lot of wear on the first three or four frets. This is because this is where open chords are more often played, so a partial re-fret may be all that is required. In either case, the frets will need dressing and the guitar setting up.
